NaNoWriMo Day 1

The first day of NaNoWriMo is almost over, and so far I’ve written 877 words. I’m hoping I can try and push myself to at least crack 1,000 before the night is over completely, and while I know that still won’t reach the daily 1,667 word count, 877 words is better than 0 words. I just have to keep reminding myself of that.

My main issue with writing in general is my inner critic. I know everyone has one, but my inner critic is also my self-editor, and it’s very difficult trying to hit a certain word count when you keep going back and deleting everything you just wrote because it’s so bad you can’t even leave it on the page long enough to revise it. And I’m constantly doing that. By deciding to do NaNo, a 50,000 word first draft manuscript isn’t the only thing I’m hoping to have. I also hope that by the end of the 30 days, I’ll have a better grasp on how to silence my inner critic/editor so that I can get to the most important part of this endeavor – the writing.
